Signs of Ageing
FAQ
What are signs of ageing?
Everyone ages differently, depending on various factors such as genetics and lifestyle. However, generally speaking, the first signs of ageing begin to appear after the age of 25, when the body naturally starts producing less collagen and gradually loses elasticity.
Over time, the skin also produces less oil, becoming increasingly fragile, dry, and less plump. The first noticeable signs of ageing typically emerge around the age of 30, often in the form of fine lines, and gradually progress into deeper wrinkles, loss of volume, and reduced elasticity.
What areas are more prone to ageing?
Some areas of the body are more delicate and susceptible to signs of ageing. On the face, the most vulnerable area is undoubtedly the eye area. The skin around the eyes is composed of very thin layers, making it delicate and less elastic. Facial expressions – such as squinting – make this area especially prone to developing fine lines.
Another area affected by age is the mouth and lip area. Similar to the eyes, facial expressions like smiling play a key role in the formation of wrinkles.
Beyond the face, signs of ageing often appear on the neck – sometimes referred to as “the second face” – and on the backs of the hands, both of which are exposed and tend to be more fragile over time.
Can proper skincare delay ageing?
Ageing is a natural process and cannot be avoided entirely. However, there are steps we can take to delay its onset and help prevent premature ageing. The most important factor is maintaining a proper and consistent skincare routine.
It’s crucial to keep the skin nourished by using products such as BL+ The Cream – a rich, nourishing formula specifically designed to combat fine lines, improve firmness, and support overall skin health.
In addition to a moisturising cream, it’s advisable to incorporate antioxidants in the form of serums or face oils. These help to neutralise free radicals and slow down cellular ageing.
Once a week, exfoliate the skin with a mild acid toner such as AHA. This helps remove dead skin cells, reveal fresh, glowing skin, and promote cell turnover – all essential for maintaining a youthful complexion.
The importance of a healthy lifestyle
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle plays a crucial role in preventing premature ageing of the skin. It’s important to limit alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, minimise harsh and prolonged sun exposure, and always wear sunscreen – ideally with at least SPF 30.
Regular exercise and a diet rich in nutritious whole foods – such as seasonal vegetables and fresh fruit – can significantly improve skin health and help maintain a youthful complexion over time.
